The Aman Spa at Amangiri is a 2,322-square metre (25,000 square foot) destination unto itself, providing a serene setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. The entrance is reminiscent of nearby slot canyons and opens into an intimate reception and lounge area featuring a glass tiled, sky-lit reflection pool and a central fireplace.
Leading off the reception is a private courtyard, individual dressing rooms and a series of pavilions. As guests move from space to space within the spa, their sense of discovery echoes that of moving through the rock formations and canyons within the surrounding landscape.
The spa menu has been created to reflect elements of Navajo culture and healing traditions. The Navajo have an all-encompassing philosophy of life, viewing all that exists in the natural world as manifestations of the Sacred. This holistic approach implies that all living beings are connected and interact according to a natural order. Maintaining a state of equilibrium is achieved by living a balanced life and respecting the four elements of life and destruction – earth, wind, fire and water. Aman Spa treatments are designed to restore “Hozho”, which in Navajo means “beauty, harmony, balance and health”.
A key feature of the spa is the Water Pavilion. Guests enter via a large reception area complete with fireplace and lounge seating. Large wooden doors pivot to reveal an outside area containing a stone-lined step pool with magnificent desert views. Terraces rise on three sides, blending with the rock face and offering cushioned seating. Refreshingly cool in summer, the pool is heated in winter.
Guests can also make use of the Water Pavilion’s steam room, dry sauna and cold plunge pool beyond the reception area. The heat from the sauna and steam room loosens tight muscles, relieves tension in the body, promotes healthy skin and improves overall circulation, while sweating opens the pores and releases toxins from the body. Combining the sauna and cold plunge pool after a workout can greatly reduce inflammation and increase the blood’s circulation, improving athletic performance.
treatment rooms & outdoor terraces
Five walnut-lined, candlelit treatment rooms (one double and four single) each feature a dressing area, treatment area, steam shower and bathroom, as well as individual music systems. Adjacent to the treatment rooms is a large reflection pool. Located at one end are two outdoor treatment terraces that enjoy sweeping views of the valley.
The spacious, light-filled Fitness Centre is equipped with the latest in cardiovascular and weight-training machinery, including treadmills, elliptical trainers and stationary bicycles. Personal training can be arranged by appointment for those wishing to have expert assistance in attaining their fitness goals. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide views of the surrounding rock formations.
Amangiri’s Yoga Pavilion features beautiful bamboo flooring and is flooded with natural light. Guests can enjoy a private lesson with one of Amangiri’s trained instructors or join a scheduled class. Regular complimentary group yoga sessions are offered throughout the week.
The Amangiri Salon offers manicures and pedicures with scenic views of the surrounding landscape.
Floatation therapy is a sensory treatment allowing guests to reach a depth of relaxation which takes years to achieve with classical meditation techniques. Accessed via a stone pathway leading across a reflection pool towards an open fireplace, the moulded floatation room utilises colour therapy as part of the meditative experience. Connected to the Floatation Pavilion is a private, timber-screened, open-air relaxation terrace with hot plunge pool for guests to enjoy after their treatment.
