Incorporating Bhutan’s traditional plant and herb-based therapies into each of the spa menus, the Amankora Spa deepens guests’ direct experience and appreciation of Bhutan’s unique natural and cultural resources. Through smell, touch, hearing, sight and taste, the Amankora Spa strives to capture a sensation which is wholly Bhutanese. The scent of the Spa is cedarwood, which is used as temple incense by the Tibetans and is employed in Bhutan’s traditional medical remedies for respiratory, skin and arthritic conditions, and as a circulatory stimulant and relaxant.
At Amankora Paro, commence with a hot stone bath in a tub filled with local herbs, followed by traditional therapies and remedies to overcome the effects of jet-lag or ease muscles after a day’s expedition. Emphasising harmony with Bhutan’s pristine environment and Amankora Paro’s serene natural setting, the Spa’s relaxation and sauna rooms feature local timbers and glass walls filtering the light of the surrounding blue pine forest.
The Spa at Amankora Punakha emphasises on the spiritual path towards healing, with meditation and Reiki treatments. While the word is Japanese, the chakra system Indian and the therapists Bhutanese, the healing energy that flows through this treatment is universal. Additional healing with a range of massage therapies is also offered.
In Amankora Gangtey, spa treatments focus on relieving tensions from the drive by concentrating on joints’ flexibility and re-hydration through herbs and hot oil. Not only warming, a hot oil massage will also include herbs targeted to improve joints’ stiffness.
The Spa in Amankora Thimphu offers royal Bhutanese beauty treatments using local herbs, given the close proximity of the Royal Palace. As Thimphu is an active place and the site of much socialising, the focus of spa treatments is to provide a peaceful haven where addition of a little glamour through herbal applications leaves guests feeling pampered, beautiful and regal.
