phang nga bay
Most Amancruises’ vessels can take you through the labyrinth of forested limestone pillars that rise from the Andaman Sea. Half-day and full-day tours to Phang Nga Bay are available and include a cruise past Koh Phing Kan, the island made famous by the James Bond movie, The Man with the Golden Gun. The smaller boats can also stop at Koh Panyee, the Muslim fishing village built on stilts over the sea. Many other islands, beaches and caves are seen on this breezy journey.
On the mainland to the east of Phang Nga Bay lies the province of Krabi. The coastline and islands here harbour limestone cliffs, pristine beaches and fishing villages. Endlessly scenic, Krabi is made for snorkelling, diving, island hopping and sunbathing.
The Similan Islands are located about 80km northwest of Amanpuri. This group of nine islands is part of Thailand’s national parks system and remains undeveloped. This is the best scuba diving location in the area, with crystal-clear waters, undisturbed reefs and a wide range of coral and fish. Visits are limited to the December-through-April period.
phi phi islands
About 80km from Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands offer magnificent views, with crystal-clear waters for snorkelling and diving. Because of the distances involved, full-day excursions are best for the Phi Phi Islands.
